About this painting . . .
In Mystras, a mountainous territory of Greece, numerous ancient buildings clung to the side of the rocky land. Some old chapels still had enough shape to provide an understanding of the kind of religious community that clung to the mountain side. One of the most intact buildings was a still occupied convent. Nuns moved about the grounds, despite the wind and rain. This scene was one of the most memorable, with a nun sitting in the picturesque courtyard and several cats, adopted by the members of this Grecian Nunnery, moving about.
