About this painting . . .
Beautiful Kalaupapa Cliffs on Molokai have a sad past. Many people afflicted with Hansen’s Disease sent to the colony were thrown into the surf along with their belongings because boatsmen were afraid of being infected. Other courageous people braved the rocks and surf to rescue the afflicted and get them safely to shore. January 20, 2005
