About this painting . . .
While I never knew my father-in-law as a really young man, he seemed to always have been solid in character, a farmer bred to be salt of the earth. I was accoustomed to seeing him in his working clothes, so, when I saw him in a black and white photo from the 1940s wearing a fancy suit and hat, I envisioned and painted him as Dapper Bennett, head of a clan of achievers.
