About this painting . . .
Kizhi Island is a world heritage site in the maze of waterways between St. Petersburg and Moscow in Russia. It contains a wooden church composed of onion shaped spires, 22 of them. Hand-shaped shingles cover the intricately crafted building, built by the islanders with no nails. I created a design to convey the primary shapes of the fascinating, unusual, very old church and called it Kizhi Wonder. Watercolor became the medium for the painting.
