About this painting . . .
Molokai is one of the smallest of the Hawaiian Islands. Yet it has character and a somber past. It was home to a large colony of people who had Hansen’s disease or leprosy. And it had an old mill for making sugar. Fascinated by the gears in the historic mill, I created Sugar Mill with watercolor on acrylic gesso.
